What is Aveeno used for?
Aveeno Cream is intended to treat and prevent dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin, and mild skin irritations (e.g.nappy rash and radiation therapy skin burns).
You can use Aveeno to treat a number of skin conditions, such as:
- eczema
- dermatitis
- psoriasis
- dry skin
Aveeno Cream is specially formulated to be gentle on dry and sensitive skin.
How does Aveeno work?
Aveeno belongs to a group of treatments called emollients. These are substances which soften the skin and hydrate it, while also reducing itching and flaking.
There are several ingredients in Aveeno which help to moisturise and soften your skin, bringing relief from dry and flaky skin.
Aveeno Cream contains colloidal oatmeal (finely ground oats). This natural ingredient is renowned for its soothing and moisturising qualities. The oatmeal in Aveeno is added to a base of other moisturising ingredients, such as liquid paraffin and glycerin.
Liquid paraffin forms an oil coating on the surface of the skin, preventing water from evaporating.
When glycerin is absorbed through the skin, it acts by drawing water to itself. This traps water just below the skin’s surface to help keep the skin moisturised.
How do I use Aveeno?
Aveeno Cream is a moisturising cream that should be applied directly to the skin. It should not be ingested or used internally.
Moisturisers such as Aveeno Cream should be used on a regular basis to prevent the skin from drying out. You may need to use Aveeno multiple times a day, especially if you have chronic skin conditions.
Before using Aveeno Cream in a pump, you will need to prime the pump.
Rotate the top of the plunger to unlock it, then press down the pump a few times until the cream comes out. This is to ensure that the pump will produce a consistent quantity of Aveeno Cream.
To Apply Aveeno Cream:
- Dispense a small amount of cream onto your hand.
- Gently massage the cream into your skin until it is absorbed.
- Wash your hands after using Aveeno Cream.
You can use Aveeno Cream as often as required.
Use Aveeno Cream after washing to lock in moisture. When you wash, soaps can wash away the natural oils that protect and hydrate your skin. Applying a moisturiser straight after washing can rehydrate the skin and prevent it from drying out.
Aveeno and other emollients can make surfaces extra slippery. Take extra care when using emollients.
What should I do if I accidentally use too much Aveeno Cream?
If you apply too much Aveeno Cream, simply wipe away the excess cream with a tissue or paper towel and discard it in the bin. Accidentally using too much Aveeno Cream is unlikely to have an adverse effect on your health.
